The Navigation and Topographic Department is:
· a structural subdivision of the General Staff of the Armed Forces and is intended for the organisation of topographic, geodetic and navigational support for the Armed Forces and Territorial Troops;
· the supply agency of the Armed Forces and Territorial Troops on issues related to their provision of topographic, geodetic and navigation aids, topographic, geodetic information and navigation and temporal data.
The main tasks of the navigation and topographic department are:
· Control of topographic and navigational support and navigation and topographic service of the Armed Forces.
Management:
· advance preparation of operational directions in topographic, geodetic and navigational terms;
· formation, storage and application of topographic, geodetic and navigational resources used in the interests of national defence;
Maintaining combat efficiency, combat and mobilisation readiness of the navigation and topographic department and subordinate military units, organisation and implementation of their continuous management, control of their condition.
Development of draft conceptual documents and plans for their implementation on the construction and development of service, topographic, geodetic and navigational support for the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations, as well as legal and regulatory and technical normative legal acts of the Defence Ministry and other official documents on topographic, geodetic and navigational support.
Planning, organisation and implementation of service training activities, methodological guidance for topographic training of troops.
Collecting, study and analysis of world trends in the development of warfare means, their application and influence on topographic, geodetic and navigational support of military operations of the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations.
Development of the theory of topographic, geodetic and navigational support of operations, development of new forms and methods of application of navigation and topographic military units and subdivisions.
Determination of the need and organisation of timely supply of the Armed Forces and territorial troops with topographic, geodetic information, topographic, geodetic support and navigation aids.
Participation:
· in strategic planning on issues of topographic, geodetic and navigational support of state defence, the joint use of the Armed Forces, other troops and military formations, including those assigned to a regional grouping of troops (forces) of the Republic of Belarus and the Russian Federation, their combat readiness, the operational training of military authorities and the combat training of formations and military units;
· in the organisation of cooperation and coordination of the activities of structural elements of the military establishment on matters of topographic, geodetic and navigational support for the defence and military security of the state;
· in planning mobilisation preparation of the economy of the Republic of Belarus on the issues of topographic, geodetic and navigational support of defence and military security of the state, exercising control over the implementation of mobilisation assignments by the organisations of the Republic of Belarus;
· in the study, selection, training, accumulation and deployment of military personnel in military specialities of the navigation and topographic service of the Armed Forces;
· within its competence, in international military and military-technical cooperation with the armed forces of other states on matters of military topography, geodesy, cartography and navigation.
