On 27 October, Belarusian President and Commander-in-Chief of the Belarusian Armed Forces Alexander Lukashenko visited the 120th Independent Mechanised Brigade of the North-Western Operational Command where he familiarised himself with upgraded weapons and military equipment.

The head of state was informed about the organisational structure and deployment of the brigade, implementation of the state programme on development of military towns, as well as organisation of combat training sessions with the use of advanced computerised simulators. The President asked about the effectiveness of simulator training. According to Defence Minister Andrei Ravkov, this method is really effective and allows reducing the cost of training.

Alexander Lukashenko visited the Combat Glory Room where the history of the 120th Mechanised Brigade is recorded. He left a note in the visitors’ book to encourage the brigade personnel to live up to the glorious deeds committed by their fellow soldiers in the past. “The people of Belarus has entrusted us with the country’s security, with the peace and tranquility in the Belarusian land,” said the President. “You have to measure up to this trust with your military service in the name of the fatherland’s prosperity,” he added.

The head of state also visited one of the barracks to learn about the living standards of military personnel.

Having changed his itinerary, Alexander Lukashenko also visited the canteen and medical company.

At the firing range the President was shown the military equipment, combat uniforms and kits, as well as small arms that will be included in the inventory of Belarusian mechanised brigades.

The head of state also familiarised himself with the performance specifications of pistols and other small arms in service with the Armed Forces (including historical weapons of the Civil War and Great Patriotic War). The military personnel demonstrated tactical shooting using advanced Belarusian-made optical sights.
