Preparations in Full Swing for Exercise Union Shield 2015

Preparations for the Belarus-Russia joint military exercise Union Shield 2015 are in full swing.

The exercise will be held from 10 to 16 September and directed by Chief of the General Staff, First Deputy Defence Minister of Belarus and Commander of Western Military District of the Russian Armed Forces.

The exercise is a final stage of the joint military training, held every two years in accordance with the decision taken by the heads of the two countries.

The concept of the exercise was developed jointly by the general staffs of the Belarusian and Russian armed forces with the assistance of the Headquarters of the Russian Army’s Western Military District. The exercise is purely defensive.

Union Shield 2015 will consist of two stages.

The manoeuvres will take place at the firing ranges located in Russia. The troops will practice various scenarios of joint actions of Belarusian and Russian military units and Regional Joint Force.
