Arms Control Issues

From 1 to 4 December, a Canadian inspection group headed by Lt. Col. Gary Hardwick will visit Belarus under the CFE Treaty.

During the visit the inspection group will verify a military unit of the Belarusian Armed Forces (at their option), which is subject to control under CFE.

The aim of the inspection is to prove that the actual amount of the materiel limited by the treaty corresponds to the declared data.

The inspection group will include five military inspectors from Canada and one inspector from Poland, Ukraine and the US each.

From 3 to 5 December, Moscow will host a meeting of the Joint Consultative Group on Arms Control within the framework of bilateral cooperation between Belarusian and Russian defence ministries.

During the meeting, the parties will harmonise their positions and joint steps on implementing international arms control treaties.

The Belarusian delegation will be headed by Col. Victor Pyatkovsky, deputy chief of the National Agency for Control and Inspections, Defence Ministry department.
