Arms Control Issues

From 29 September to 3 October 2014, an Italian inspection group will verify a specified area in Belarus under the under the Treaty on Conventional Armed Forces in Europe (CFE).

During the visit, the inspection group will examine a military unit of the Belarusian Armed Forces (at their option), which is subject to control under the CFE Treaty.

The aim of the inspection is to prove that the actual amount of the materiel limited by the treaty corresponds to the declared data.

The inspection group will include seven military inspectors from Italy and one inspector Hungary and Portugal each.

From 30 September to 3 October, a group of Canadian inspectors will conduct an observation flight over Belarus and Russia on board a C-130J observation aircraft under the Open Skies Treaty.

The inspection is aimed at verifying military activities in the observed states.
