Belarusian Military Delegation Visits the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall in Beijing

At the invitation of the Chinese side, a Belarusian military delegation headed by Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin, Minister of Defence of the Republic of Belarus, visited the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall in Tiananmen Square in Beijing.

Tiananmen Square is traditionally regarded as the symbolic heart of the Chinese nation. Here Mao Zedong proclaimed the People’s Republic of China on 1 October 1949. The square is home to the Monument to the People’s Heroes and the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, while the Great Hall of the People and the National Centre for the Performing Arts are located nearby. Built in 1977, the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall is a symbol of the Chinese people’s profound remembrance of and respect for the founding leader of the People’s Republic of China.

An invitation to visit the Memorial Hall is a sign of particular trust and respect.

Lieutenant General Viktor Khrenin, Minister of Defence of Belarus, made a commemorative entry in the Guest Book of Honour of the memorial complex:

“It was with great respect and gratitude that the Belarusian military delegation visited the Mao Zedong Memorial Hall, a symbol of the Chinese people’s profound remembrance of and respect for the founding leader of the People’s Republic of China.

The memory of Chairman Mao’s life and outstanding achievements, as well as the profound respect of the Chinese people for their leaders and their reverence for the history of Great China, will remain with us forever.

It is precisely a people that honours the memory of its ancestors that can be considered a worthy successor, continuing along the path they charted.
