Belarus President Alexander Lukashenko Visits the Precision Electromechanics Plant in Dzerzhinsk Region

According to the press service of the Belarus President, today during a visit to the Precision Electromechanics Plant in Dzerzhinsk Region the President gave the Belarusian military a task of reaching a new level in the development of advanced missile systems.

The State Military Industrial Committee is to equip the Armed Forces with the most up-to-date missile systems in 2016-2017. Earlier, the President gave instructions to establish a missile production line and equip the Armed Forces with advanced missile systems. During his visit to the plant the President was informed about the fulfilment of these tasks.

Alexander Lukashenko was also informed about the progress in localisation of production of missiles for multiple launch rocket systems (MLRS). The Polonez MLRS and rocket engine test equipment were shown to the President. “A new stage has to follow. We should not stop at this,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “We have to advance within the framework of international agreements and treaties and create more up-to-date rocket solutions,” he added.

It was reported to the President that Belarus had successfully productionised the technology of extending the service life of missiles. “Ten thousand per year is very good. We can do it faster if necessary,” said Alexander Lukashenko.

The President warned against speculation that Belarus rattled the sabre or flexed the muscles. “Today and tomorrow we will follow a purely defensive strategy. We are not going to attack anyone,” said Alexander Lukashenko. “We will protect ourselves against those who are intent on attacking us, waging wars against us,” he added.

He emphasised that it was a defensive strategy. It is designed to make an enemy think twice before waging a war against Belarus or provoking a conflict. “We have to inflict unacceptable damage upon enemies if they decide to attack us. Unacceptable damage and unacceptable losses, that’s the main thing. A purely defensive tactics,” he added.

The President was informed about the production structure, financial and economic activities, as well as prospects for the plant.
