CIS Air Defence Forces Conducting Joint Staff Exercise

CIS Air Defence Forces Conducting Joint Staff Exercise

The capability of Belarusian and Russian air defence forces to carry out AD combat duty will be evaluated during the command and staff exercise involving command and control bodies and AD units of the CIS Joint Air Defence System.

The exercise started today under the Plan of the CIS Joint Air Defence System activities in 2014.

The main goal of the exercise is to improve the interaction between AD units while carrying out AD combat duty and the skills of officers at all levels to manage the actions of AD units.

During the exercise, the military will employ a total of 20 aircraft.

The exercise will evaluate actions of command and control bodies as they deal with violators of airspace usage rules, hijacked aircraft and aircraft in distress.

Along with the Belarusian pilots, the exercise will involve the Russian crews flying the Su-27 aircraft from the airbase in Baranovichi.

Cooperation in air defence has been one of the most important priorities in military cooperation between the CIS member states.
